India and Japan to cooperate big time on bioscience research

New Delhi: The visit of Japanese Prime Minister, Shinzo Abe witnessed the signing of many key agreements between Indian and Japan. These memoranda of understanding were agreed upon by the two sides in the presence of Japanese Premier and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Gandhinagar in Gujarat.

The first agreement signed by the two nations are for an international joint exchange programme between Interdisciplinary Theoretical and Mathematical Sciences programme (iTHEMS), RIKEN and National Centres for Biological Sciences (Simons-NCBS). The partnership aims to establish a joint exchange program to identify and foster talented young scientists from both the countries to collaborate in the field of theoretical biology

The second agreement involves the joint research contract between National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science & Technology (AIST), Japan and Department of Biotechnology (DBT). It aims to conduct joint research and to establish an International Center named as “DBT-AIST International CENter for Translational & Environmental Research (DAICENTER)” at AIST, Japan in order to promote science and technology in both the institutions and countries.

The third agreement has been signed between DBT and National Institute of Advanced Science and Technology (AIST). It promotes research collaboration between DBT Research Institutes and AIST in the field of life sciences and biotechnology.
