New Delhi: The 6th Annual South Asia Biosafety Conference (SABC-2018) is all set to be organized by the South Asia Biosafety Programme (SABP), ILSI Research Foundation and Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL) on September 15-17, 2018, this time in Bangladesh.

The event is also supported by International Society for Biosafety Research (ISBR) along with other regional partners including Department of Environment, Govt. of Bangladesh, Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, Bangladesh Association for Plant Tissue Culture & Biotechnology (BAPTC&B), Institute for International Crop Improvement – Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, India, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India, Asia Pacific Association of Agricultural Research Institutions (APAARI) and Bhutan Agriculture and Food Regulatory Authority (BAFRA).

The agenda for SABC 2018 includes plenary sessions on: Biosafety Regulation and Capacity Building Initiatives in South Asia; Crop Biotechnology and Biosafety in South Asia; Engineering Plant Tolerance to Abiotic and Biotic Stressors; Research Advances in the Development of Transgenic and Gene Edited Products in South Asia; Animal, Arthropod and Aquatic Biotechnology: Biosafety Research, Risk Assessment and Regulation; The Theory and Practice of Effective Science Communication; and Biosafety Risk Assessment and Regulation of Gene Edited Plants.

Presentations will be made by leading regional and other international experts from regulatory agencies, scientific academies, universities and the private sector. There will also be a poster session to this year’s program so that as many participants as possible can share their research with colleagues.

Students and early career scientists can submit abstracts for Poster Presentations at the South Asia Biosafety Conference. The abstract deadline is 31st August. 8-10 students and early career scientists will also have the opportunity to present their work as an oral presentation in the Lightening Round.

The Institute for International Crop Improvement, Donald Danforth Plant Science Center will offer prizes for the SABC Poster Session.

First Prize: Registration, airfare, and hotel accommodation to attend the International Society for Biosafety Research Symposium (formerly the International Symposium on the Biosafety of Genetically Modified Organisms or ISBGMO), which will be held 1-4 April, 2019 in beautiful Tarragona, Spain.

Second Prize: USD $300 cash and a two-year membership to the International Society for Biosafety Research.
