Dr M K Bhat appointed as the new director of NCCS

New Delhi: Dr Manoj Kumar Bhat has taken over as the new director of the National Centre for Cell Sciences (NCCS). Dr Bhat took the charge from his predecessor, Dr Gopal Gundu yesterday at Pune.

The NCCS is an autonomous institute located within the academically-enriched campus of the Pune University. The institute is aided by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India.

Dr Bhat has been a Scientist at NCCS since 1998 and rose from the category ‘D’ to ‘G’ over the period of time. He has been carrying out fundamental work on the relationship between obesity and cancer at NCCS. His area of research includes cell biology and cancer biology.

Dr Bhat holds a doctorate in biochemistry from the University of Mysore. He had earlier completed his masters in biochemistry from the same university during 1985.  He was Research Associate at the Institute of Human Virology, University of Maryland, Maryland during 1998. He has been a Visiting Fellow at National Cancer Institute, NIH, Bethesda, MD between 1993-1998.

Since inception, NCCS has been carrying out cutting-edge research in cell biology. It has been providing valuable services as a national animal cell repository and has been supporting human resource development through various teaching and training programs.
