PM to inaugurate Indian Science Congress’ today at Imphal

With the theme, “Reaching the Unreached through Science and Technology”, the Science Congress 2018 will be focussed on translational science for promoting affordable sustainable innovation

New Delhi: For the first time, the Indian Science Congress is being held in any North Eastern State of India. The Prime Minister, Mr Narendra Modi will formally inaugurate the 105th session of the Congress, today on 16th March at Manipur University. The concluding session will be held on 20th March.

With the theme, “Reaching the Unreached through Science and Technology”, the Science Congress 2018 will be focussed on translational science for promoting affordable sustainable innovation. During the five-day program, the focus will be on various scientific disciplines and how they can connect with the society.

The annual event will witness the participation of Nobel laureates, Field Medal winners in mathematics and leading scientists who are slated to address different sessions. Young Scientists Awards will also be conferred during the function. A technology-based start-up conclave also will be showcased inviting top innovators and entrepreneurial researchers.

The highlights of the program include children’s science congress which will be inaugurated on 17th March and Women’s science congress to be held on 18th and 19th March. In addition, there will be a ‘Science Communicator’s Meet’ on 19th March.

The organizers, Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) is a professional body under the ministry of science and technology of the government of India. From the modest beginning in 1914, with hundred and five members and thirty five papers communicated for reading at the first session, ISCA has grown into a strong fraternity with more than ten thousand members till to date. The number of papers communicated for reading has risen to nearly one thousand.
