Bengaluru: The week from January 11th to 17th is observed as the global road safety week. Taking a huge step in equipping the awareness in traffic policemen on the exigency of reaching the accident victim to the hospital, the Columbia Asia Referral Hospital, Yeshwanthpur (Bengaluru) organized training programmes in this regard.

The hospital as a part of its CSR activity imparted training to more than 50 traffic police at the Traffic Training & Road Safety Institute – Hegde Nagar with an objective to save road traffic accident victims and decrease the fatality rate in Road accident case.

Columbia Asia has initiated this programme since 2016 and imparts training to the Traffic Police thrice a month on the importance of the first few minutes for the accident victim, which is crucial in saving lives. As on date, the hospital has already trained over 3000 traffic policemen. The training is on rescuing accident victims and in giving CPR techniques since they are first responders at the accident site. The police personnel are trained in both adult and paediatric techniques.

Dr Firozahmad H Torgal, Consultant Emergency at Columbia Asia Referral Hospital – Yeshwanthpur, who has trained more than 5000 people on Basic Life Support has a message for the community. He says, “Please protect yourselves by wearing proper helmets and seat belts. People should be alert and make right decisions, avoid drink and drive to ensure a safe run without accidents in today’s traffic cluttered Bangalore. Beware of the pedestrians and avoid injury to the people who walk on the Roadside. In case you see a road traffic accident victim, please go ahead and help them.”
